What does the Communications Officer do?


• Promotes monitors and co-ordinates Union services, and building support services.
• Provides a student input by working with staff to ensure our services meet the needs of students
• Responsible for collating and responding to students’ views on Union services through research and feedback
• Responsible, alongside the Finance Officer and Elections Group, for coordinating publicity of General Meeting, AGM, Referenda and Officer Elections.
• Maintains and co-ordinates the Union’s long term communications strategy
• Maintains and co-ordinates the Union’s long term marketing strategy through all forms of media.
• Ensures union policy decisions relating to Union commercial services are implemented.
• Co-ordinates Start of the Year publications; Editor of the Bubble.
• In charge of public relations – general contact for external press (including university) via press releases
• Creates content for and updates the Union website and related areas in conjunction with the Design Services & Web Development Co-ordinator& e.g. Online ticketing, mass mailing, wireless network provision and marketing.
• Monitors and co-ordinates the Union’s entertainments provision and development with particular reference to the Final Fling – and responsible for Technical Services Group department.
• Responsible for laying up the Company’s Annual Report at the Beginning of term in office, and for preparing Report at end of tenure.
• Responsible for the development of the Union’s Media Societies in consultation with SSDO
• Responsible for awareness of Union Democratic activity in consultation with the FDSO.
• Develops Union’s marketing literature for the future
• Responsible for increasing awareness of non-commercial Union events eg society events, themed weeks, big sporting fixtures
• Responsible for increasing membership involvement through active communication campaigns such as Get Involved
• Responsible for ensuring communication from entire sabbatical team to membership
• Responsible for monitoring of Union’s sponsorship and advertising opportunities.
• Responsible for development and awareness of Union Brands
• Liaises with bus companies regarding late night bus provision.
