Black History Month

October marks the celebration of Black History Month which aims to recognise and celebrate the contributions of black people to British society.
Each year, BlackHistoryMonth.org.uk selects a theme to focus a key aspect of Black History. For 2024, the theme is 'Reclaiming Narratives' which is all about celebrating heritatge and ensuring black voices are heard.

One of the most exciting aspects of Reclaiming Narratives is its potential to inspire and educate the next generation. In schools, universities, and cultural institutions, this theme offers a fresh perspective on Black history that goes beyond the traditional focus on slavery and civil rights. It’s about celebrating Black excellence in all its forms—whether in the arts, sciences, politics, or everyday life.

Black History Month: Reclaiming the Narrative T-Shirt Designing Workshop
Tuesday 22nd October,
Copper Rooms 2
14:00-16:00

This year’s Black History Month theme of Reclaiming the Narrative highlights the importance of telling authentic stories that celebrate Black excellence in all its forms. From the arts and sciences to politics and everyday achievements, we honour the vast contributions of Black individuals that shape our world.

As part of the celebration, students are invited to a special T-shirt designing workshop. The workshop offers a creative space to reflect on the power of storytelling and representation, while designing unique T-shirts that symbolise pride and resilience.

It's an opportunity for students to express their voices, celebrate Black culture, and reclaim their own narratives.

Join us in celebrating and honouring Black excellence—past, present, and future! There will also be entertainment from our steel pans duo Mighty Jamma, along with some sweet treats!
