A FREE CONFERENCE FOR AFRICAN AND CARIBBEAN WOMEN THAT EXPLORES LEADERSHIP IN DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES FROM THE BLACK, BRITISH AND FEMALE PERSPECTIVE.

The University of Warwick’s African and Caribbean Society careers conference for 2019 is titled, Lead Like A Girl. This new self-development conference focuses on women in careers and leadership, combatting barriers for black women in the workplace. We are redefining the term 'like a girl' to mean something empowering from women of all intersections. Leadership is not exclusive to men and this conference will prove it. With the lack of representation of women of colour at the top of corporate and creative spaces, our sponsors and leading black women from across the country are invited to offer empowerment, advice, talks and workshops to some of the brightest black, female academics in the UK. Come along and be empowered at a pivotal point in your academic career – in time for exam season.

Lead Like A Girl is not about black women accessing corporate or creative spaces. This conference is about black women accessing the very tops of their respective spaces. Black women are beginning to emerge as leaders across all industries, academia, government and non-profit organizations. This trend is particularly evident in the creation of new businesses: the 2016 American Express OPEN State Of Women-Owned Businesses Report found that women-owned businesses have grown five times faster than the national average since 2007, fueled primarily by Black women.
