Warwick Student Cinema: Dune: Part Two (70mm)

Event from Warwick Student Cinema

Sunday 22 September 2024, 10.00PM - Monday 23 September 2024, 12.00AM

L3

Come see Dune: Part Two presented on incredible 70mm film on the big screen in L3!

Set immediately after its predecessor and based on Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune: Part Two is a breathtaking movie-watching experience. While the first film was more centred around worldbuilding and providing some context, here, instead, the film is free to explore the worlds that have been set-up so far. Paul Atreides (Chalamet) struggles to convince the Fremen of Arrakis that he means no harm. Meanwhile, his mother, Lady Jessica (Ferguson) is fully possessed by her Bene Gesserit instincts.

After an initially optimistic beginning, where Paul finds a home in Chani (Zendaya), a Fremen warrior, things take a dark turn as Paul continues to be seen as the Lisan-al-Gaib, or the messiah, of Arrakis, which adds unprecedented pressure on him. Meanwhile, opposing forces battle for the throne to rule the realm, and scheme in the background.

If you’re overwhelmed by all this nomenclature, do not worry. Consider watching Dune: Part One for some context – it clearly explains all the Dune lore, which is not extremely complex – or if you’re short on time, reading up the plot summary of either the first film or the novel itself. In fact, most of it echoes real world politics and historical events that you’d be familiar with.

With breathtaking visuals and yet another amazing score from Hans Zimmer, Dune: Part Two will quite possibly leave you at a loss for words. The big screen is the best way to witness this film and to soak in the beautiful visuals and stunning sound design and soundtrack: an experience you will surely get at the Student Cinema! [Naomi Pandey]
