This is a statement from your SU Officers regarding an antisemitic song that was played at a recent event hosted by the UWCA. Read more below.
We are aware that a video has been circulating related to an antisemitic song played at a recent event hosted by the UWCA, which has been causing concern for many of our members.
We find the contents of the video to be extremely concerning, and reiterate that antisemitism in any form is completely unacceptable. The Students' Union stands for inclusion and community, and the current reports of activity do not reflect these values - we strongly condemn any racist and antisemitic actions and behaviour.
We are currently working to respond to complaints related to this incident, and are liaising proactively with the University and student groups involved to make sure our response is proportionate. We are exploring all options open to us in relation to this matter. We are aware that this has been formally raised with the University, and so must prioritise those formal processes reaching their outcome.
Members of staff have been in contact with groups we know to be affected to offer welfare support, and we would encourage any student who needs support to reach out to the SU or any of the support avenues below.
