Today is the third day of voting in the 2021 Spring Elections, and already more than 2,000 Warwick students have voted for who they want as SU Officers and Faculty Reps in 2021/22. With over 50 candidates campaigning on a range of issues across all positions, it is important that you elect students who you think will represent your interests the best. Please find time to read their manifestos and make your vote count.

Some students may be aware of an email that was circulated to all candidates by the Warwick Jewish Society, asking them whether or not they endorse the IHRA definition of antisemitism, so that they could subsequently publish a list of candidates’ responses, or lack of, online. The elections Returning Officer and Adjudication Panel, who have complete jurisdiction over decisions surrounding elections rules, had previously advised the society that this activity would not be within the endorsement guidelines, and would contravene regulations around negative campaigning, due to the publication of candidates who did not respond. With this being a rules breach, candidates were advised not to respond, but some candidates had already replied to the society before they received the message from the adjudication panel. We would like to give reassurance to those candidates that no action will be taken against them.

We have also been made aware of some social media posts from unofficial student groups which constitute negative campaigning. This kind of activity is not allowed, and so the Adjudication Panel will be looking into who is responsible and taking any appropriate action. The Adjudication Panel will continue to meet throughout the week to deal with any election-related complaints or issues.

Voting will remain open until 7pm on Friday 26th February, and we would encourage all candidates to make a concerted effort to continue campaigning positively, so the election experience is an enjoyable one for everybody involved.
