Warwick Women in Economics Society

Warwick Women in Economics Society

Founded in 2020, Warwick Women in Economics Society (WWiE) is the UK’s first society dedicated to supporting female students at university and promoting career progression in economics-related fields. As an intersectional society we are working to increase diversity in all dimensions and welcome students of all degrees and genders to join us!

What we do:

  • Annual International Women's Day Conference - hosting keynote talks, workshops and panels from female industry leaders in fields such as finance, consulting, journalism, and the public sector, providing an inclusive forum for debate and an opportunity to learn about careers.

  • Exclusive Alumni Mentorship Programme - matching our members with experienced Warwick alumni to share advice about internship and job applications, interview preparation and the transition from university to the workplace.

  • Career Advice & Networking Opportunities - CV and cover letter workshops, Internship panels and Q&As, Interview clinics, talks and workshops with our sponsors, opportunities for office visits, as well as supporting network growth through our Linkedin group

  • Collaborative Events - working alongside other societies at Warwick to deliver events and host guest speakers - current collaborations include with the Economics Summit (WES); Economics Society; Rethink Economics and Warwick Women's Careers society.

  • Socials - opportunites to meet other students studying at Warwick and our exec team, we value the importance of an inclusive, diverse community where you can make friends for life. Past socials include evening meals, games nights, picnics, craft events and circles, check out our Instagram page for more!

It is widely acknowledged that economics has an inclusivity problem and we are committed to addressing this. We champion the importance of intersectional networks and provide a safe space where voices can be heard, and ideas can be shared.

As well as encouraging peer networking and conversation, we also invite our growing alumni to participate in our mentorship scheme and events. We host regular and informative talks from female industry leaders in a wide range of fields, amplifying the voices of those who have been systematically excluded from the discipline. We hope to create excitement and direction for female students at Warwick, and we support these students throughout their journey, providing career support to help students achieve their full potential.

The core of our mission is to raise awareness of the importance of economics amongst underrepresented groups within the field. We aim to do this by challenging existing barriers to equality through our initiatives and events and, of course, by growing our community.
