On Tuesday 21st April, the new Board of Trustees met formally for the first time at University House. The first meeting was largely a housekeeping exercise, ensuring that the standing orders for the Board and its membership were agreed. Tom Smeaton, one of the lay trustees, was also appointed as Deputy Chair of the Board and will assist the President in their role as Chair.
The Trustees received a presentation on the financial situation of the Union and have a clear understanding of their responsibilities and of the challenges facing the organisation.
On Wednesday 13th May, the Trustees met for the second time. At this meeting, the Trustees were presented with the final budget for next year. The Deputy Registrar from the University also attended for part of the meeting where there was a discussion on the relationship between the University and the Students’ Union.
The next meeting of the Board will be taking place in July where the Sabbatical-elects will be in attendance as part of their handover.
