Equality and Diversity

Equality and Diversity

The University is proud of its cosmopolitan nature and has a strong commitment to equality and diversity, expressed through the following statement: “The University of Warwick, recognising the value of sustaining and advancing a safe and welcoming learning environment, strives to treat both employees and students with respect and dignity, treat them fairly with regards to all assessments, choices and procedures, and to give them encouragement to reach their full potential. Therefore the University strives to treat all its members, and visitors, fairly and aims to eliminate unjustifiable discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, political beliefs, religious beliefs or practices, disability, marital status, family circumstances, sexual orientation, spent criminal convictions, age or any other inappropriate grounds.”

All staff and students are protected from discrimination and harassment, and the Equality Act 2010 also protects against discrimination by association and perception. Increasing student diversity inevitably brings challenges to campus life and can result in conflictual relationships on campus, which may result in individuals failing to work to their full potential because of difficult classroom/social dynamics or the insensitivity of others. The Warwick community would like to take proactive steps to ensure that everyone studying at Warwick feels valued and respected.

To this end, all Staff Student Liaison representatives are asked to have a standing agendum of Equality and Diversity at their SSLC meetings at least annually. Adequate training and resources will be made available to ensure that representatives understand their equality and diversity rights and responsibilities.
