Founded in 2017, the Warwick Africa Summit is a student-led society that organises a flagship 2-day interdisciplinary conference, drawing in an array of speakers who are creating an impact on the African continent and its people. We aim to celebrate the continent, drive collaboration, and stimulate change by connecting African leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs to a global talent-pool of individuals.
Through the multi-disciplinary keynote speeches, panels, and breakout sessions, the Summit presents a platform for students, academics, and professionals to engage in meaningful conversations that address the difficulties and solutions that concern the continent.
Our Theme
This year's Africa Summit draws inspiration from the Igbo proverb, "Osisi nile na-eto n’ime ohia mana ora weputara onwe ya" – "All trees grow in the forest, but the ora (oha) singles itself out." This powerful metaphor speaks to the core of our theme: self-determination, agency, and the power of a generation to forge its own narrative and identity.
We believe that this act of self-definition is fundamental to the broader African identity. This year, we explore the multifaceted nature of what it means to be African in the 21st century, asking crucial questions such as: "Am I African if I was born abroad?", "How do diverse experiences shape our understanding of African identity?", and "What role does the diaspora play in the continent's future?"
Our summit aims to demonstrate that there is no single, monolithic definition of "African." We are Africa – in all our diverse forms. Whether born on the continent or in the diaspora, whether raised in bustling cities or rural villages, claiming your African identity is enough. It is this act of claiming, of defining oneself as African, that strengthens the tapestry of our collective identity. Join us as we explore the dynamic and ever-evolving narrative of what it means to be African today.
Stay tuned for upcoming annoucements of speakers, the event schedule and more surprises!
This year's Summit will break boundaries and deliver a unique and unforgettable experience. We can't wait to welcome you!
