Event from Thai Boxing

Sunday 19 January 2025, 3.00PM - Sunday 19 January 2025, 4.00PM

Welcome To Fight Camp!

***Important***
fight camp assumes you have a decent amount of experience in Thai boxing and have already had some practice with sparring, if you're unsure if if this is you then please speak to our captain or one of our women's captains!

Fight Camp is our new session for this year! we first ran it in last term and by popular demand it is back again. It's designed for those who are members coming to our advanced sessions or those with sparring experience, looking to gain more skills to ready them for a fight or to help them with trialing out for fight team!

The structure of fight camp works similarly to bootcamp, it will take place over 8 weeks with a session every week and will cover a range of techniques and skills from fine tuning the basic techniques and exploring proper defense, to sparring tips and how to score in order to win a fight.

Things that will be covered are:

  • Scoring in muay thai - how to score in a fight and what judges are looking for
  • Proper Kicking technique - maintaining balance, where to land, fine details to generate more power
  • Teeps - How and when to utilise them, proper technique for more force, how to defend teeps and counter off of them
  • Proper checks and defense - how to remain balanced, maximise a check to off balance or hurt your opponent, countering after checking a kick
  • Clinching - How to knee properly for power, Finding dominant positions in a clinch, maintaining balance, ways to enter and exit clinch, controlling arms
  • Sweeps - learn a variety of sweeps from in the clinch and from catching kicks, how to defend sweeps and avoid being swept yourself
  • Different fighting styles e.g muay femur, how to best try and counter these styles and how to spot them as well e.g how best to deal with a technical fighter, someone very aggressive and heavy with punches etc
  • Plus a range of sparring practice to put this all into use and to recieve feedback on how to improve as well

The aim of fight camp is to prepare you so going into a fight you feel confident, know what you are looking for and understand how you can score in that fight and counter your opponents fighting style effectively.

The session runs every sunday 15:00 - 16:00 running from weeks 2 to 9

first session will be 19/01/2025

**** PLEASE NOTE ****

Buying a fight camp ticket does NOT guarentee you a spot on fight team after its concluded, it is here to better equip you with the skills we are looking for when it comes to trials for fight team.
