Come see V for Vendetta presented on 35mm film on the big screen in L3!

James McTeigue’s thrilling dystopian political film is both unnerving and unexpectedly charming. Based on the DC Comic of the Vertigo limited series of the same name, we follow V (Hugo Weaving) who dons a Guy Fawkes mask and commits acts of destruction and terrorism to fight against the now totalitarian England. Entrenched in the same plot is the unsuspecting Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman), who has more to do with this story than she may know. Elsewhere, a detective Finch (Stephen Rea) is exasperatedly looking for this V character.What ensues is a thoroughly entertaining and intriguing cinematic experience, with rich nods to The Count of Monte Cristo and Tchaikovsky. Also, a vibrantly vivid, vociferous vocalisation of v-based alliteration. The subject matter of this film is also pertinent, discussing the harms of totalitarianism, fascism and censorship. Under the regime of the “Norsefire” party headed by an infuriating Adam Sutler (John Hurt), this film speaks to the importance of a transparent and democratic government, wherein “the people don’t fear the government, but the government fear the people”.
