What actually is decolonisation? What can we decolonise, what can we not decolonise? How can we move beyond the buzzwords and the black squares? This will be an open discussion on the limits of rhetoric around "decolonisation" and the performative nature of institutional and corporate anti-racism efforts, particularly in the last few years. All students are welcome and we encourage this to be a space for discussion and disagreement, but it will also be a safe space where hateful views will not be tolerated.
This talk is part of the Blackness, Imagination, Liberation event series.
Blackness, Imagination, Liberation aims to celebrate Black culture and art but also to give students space to consider the ways that the struggle for Black liberation is ongoing. We’ll be showcasing Warwick’s Black creative talent with events in collaboration with poets, musicians, photographers and more, and provide a forum for engagement with questions of oppression and resistance through talks and discussions with some of the foremost Black activists and thinkers in Britain today.
This campaign has been made possible by the support of alumni and donors through the Warwick Innovation Fund.
