Affiliations

Warwick SU is affiliated with a number of external bodies to help us carry out our work on behalf of the student body most effectively:

NUS (National Union of Students)

The NUS is the national representative and campaigning body for students in the UK. Benefits to the SU of NUS affiliation can be found here.

BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport)

BUCS is the national governing body which oversees sport within UK Higher Education. Through BUCS, students from member institutions compete in a variety of competitions including league, cup and championship fixtures.

Affiliation to BUCS and other sport-specific governing bodies is a mandatory requirement for any teams looking to compete in BUCS fixtures. Affiliation allows the individuals/teams concerned to be adequately insured, ensures that competition standards and rules & regulations are standardised, legally protects individuals competing, and grants them access to opportunities, funding and advice.

AdviceUK

AdviceUK provides support for not-for-profit or free Advice Centres. We receive training and advice on quality issues, together with updates on current issues.

CPAG (Child Poverty Action Group)

CPAG is a highly-respected welfare rights publishing and training organisation.

Membership enables us to access expert welfare rights books for the Advice Centre which deal with student benefits and support enquiries. CPAG also offer training opportunities for advisors, along with excellent welfare rights research that is relevant to students.

Coventry and Warwick Chamber of Commerce

NCVO (National Council of Voluntary Organisations)

NCVO is the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, to which we are affiliated at no cost (via our membership of the NUS).

NCVO provide charity sector information, guidance, training and policy updates, allowing us to keep on top of issues which affect the SU as a charity. They lobby on behalf of charities on issues ranging from the Lobbying Act to best practice in volunteering.

UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs)

UKCISA is a key organisation which provides guidance and training on immigration issues for international students.

  • Access to numerous resources which are vital to staff and officers in conducting their work on behalf of students.
  • Significant bulk purchasing discounts on branded food and drink products (the savings from which we are able to pass on to our members through lower outlet prices).
  • A national platform for action on issues related to Higher Education and student life.
  • The ability to purchase a TOTUM Card, allowing students to save money at thousands of outlets nationwide and overseas (the SU receives revenue from all TOTUM Card purchases, which helps contribute to our non-profit services for students).
